Here's a tip for photographing apples: keep them in the fridge for some time before you shoot. Take them out some 15 minutes before you start shooting.. the cold apples will start 'sweating' and you'll get wonderful texture thanks to the 'dew' on the surface.
I found this out today by accident :)
Also, for the apple pictures, I used a styrofoam sheet to bounce the flash light back on the apple. I like the results.. I think I'll try making a full light box now.
